Roadways Names and Traffic Tips
When driving around town, you might want to tune your radio to KRLD 1080 AM for traffic reports every 8 minutes.
(MapQuest is a great Internet resource for Dallas-Fort Worth traffic information.)
Needless to say, traffic reports are useful-- you can take alternate routes to get to your destination if there is a major traffic problem.
Often, local traffic reporters (and residents) will use different names to describe the same highway. This is because Dallas-Fort Worth honors popular people by naming freeways and highways after them. Nice, huh?
Here is a table that will get you up-to-speed with the different Metroplex highway names:
Also, you might want to locate your destination with the tool at the bottom of this page
and then map the site with MapBlast!. It seems
that Mapblast! is more accurate for travel directions--
print out the information for easy reference. However, MapQuest tends to have better graphics.
The DFW International Airport is
often used by travelers that are destined for Dallas-Fort Worth. The DFW International Airport,
the world's fifth most active airport, is located less than four hours from
any major city in the continental United States. Also, DFW airport is truly a global gateway, offering approximately 60 non-stop international departures and serving destinations in Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.

If you're new to the area, you might find that
The McKinney Avenue Transit Authority,
Trinity Railway Express,
or the
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) are useful for getting
around the Metroplex.
Lastly, if you are a new or current resident, you might want to keep Mapsco in your vehicle -- it's a detailed area map-- and local ads often refer to it.
Mapsco can be found at a local Wal-Mart or office-supply
store in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
